Canada's economy flatlined again, and September slipped 0.1%
Canada's economy did not grow in August, and the first read on September is negative.
StatCan reported Oct 30 that real GDP was essentially unchanged in August for a second straight month. The September flash estimate is -0.1%.
Q3 is tracking 1.3% annualized. The Bank of Canada had projected 2%.
For investors, the number that matters is the gap. An economy tracking below the central bank projection supports slower rent growth, softer buyer demand and longer exit timelines in underwriting.
Deals that only work if growth accelerates need a new test. Deals that carry on flat growth have a clearer margin.
